COURAGE

What is courage?

Rapid Response system

Courage is a Social Innovation Project

Its a system designed which intends to respond rapidly during natural calamities.

Such systems can not only provide the required support and aid to victims but also save lives, reduce casualties and help victims deal with trauma. Through this research, I intend to find the loopholes in the current disaster management system and create a process that can be followed for responding rapidly and effectively during natural catastrophes around the country.

WHY COURAGE?

My Vision for creating social Impact

I have a vision, and with this vision which is to change the world through my designs. And thereby, this vision lead me to deep dive into my own experience and create a rapid response system in phase of natural calamities.

In 2015, a massive earthquake hit Nepal and the tremors from the quake were felt even in India, in the place where I was living at that time. Our region too was on alert and we had to temporarily evacuate our homes thrice. At that moment, all I could think of was, how temporary our lives were and how everything could be destroyed in a second.  The city was chaotic with everyone outside their homes and no help that we could seek. As a design student at that time, many questions were erupting in my head.

This incident constantly echoed within me time and again. When I went back to college for my final semester I decided to take this up as my graduation project which precisely was ‘ What can be done at the time of crisis’. I produced a course of work by the end of the semester that mainly addressed disaster management and how an efficient system in place could be of help at the time of a crisis. I created Courage, a mobile application that connects all those willing to volunteer and also connect them with NGO’s and other organisations working for an emergency.

DISCOVERY TO DESIGN

My Journey

  • Design a well-rounded and pioneering rapid response system that enables people and organisations to provide support and aid in disaster-stricken areas and helping the affected populace.

  • Designed a user-friendly mobile application (Android version) called Courage App that enables youth groups and NGOs to unite and reach out to areas that are in maximum need of help and support pre and post-disaster.

  • Learnt System Design and gained crafty hand over various design stages from initial empathising phase to ideation to Implementation.
